SILICONE: A SPECIAL COMPOUND

Experience and intensive development in the field of elastomer technology mean that time and again BIW sets new innovative development standards. One example is the special process for manufacturing high-quality silicone Compounds, the basis for the end product.

In-house compounding allows for additional components (additives) to be mixed in with the basic silicone, to produce material blends and refine them through a strainer. The resulting high-quality silicone compounds are available in a wide spectrum of colours and hardness ranges. These compounds guarantee several chemical, physical and physiologicalproperties in the end product.

High temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) are processed in modern procedures such as extrusion and injection moulding. The resulting hoses, profiles and moulded parts are:

• Resistant to high temperatures up to +300 °C
• Flexible in extremely cold temperatures down to ?80 °C
• Permanently elastic and capable of taking mechanical loads
• Essentially resistant to chemicals
• Physiologically harmless
