Our completely new trade show booth design that we would like to introduce to you in this edition of BIW COMPACT presents the most important branches of our high-quality products made from silicon rubber and technical textiles. We present the interesting innova- tions for each segment of the market as well as newly developed customer-specified solutions as practical examples of the competence of BIW. Why not take this opportunity to discover the capabilities of BIW and visit us in Düsseldorf at our trade show booth which is locat- ed in Hall 6 A33. We will be there between the 16th and 23rd of October 2013. Another subject of this edition is a description of the challenges of an external audit corresponding to the current ISO norm standards using the example of three re-certifications by DNV (Det Norske Veritas). We hope to have aroused your interest in the current developments at BIW. Hope you enjoy reading Flexibility, Opportunities, Innovations 01 SUCCESSFUL RE-CERTIFICATION In a huge audit marathon, BIW achieved the necessary re-certifications according to the most important norm standards and thus confirmed, in an impressive way, the functionality of the comprehensive management system. BIW has been certified for many years, and in some instances, for decades, in accordance with the rele- vant industry standards. But this autumn saw multiple re-certifications on the cards and these held almost the entire team on tenterhooks for a whole week. Alongside the general industry standard for management systems, ISO 9001, the company was also tested and examined for the automotive standard ISO/TS 16949 including the “Customer Specific Requirements” of some OEMs and First Tiers as well as the Medical Products standard ISO13485.Itwasparticularlytensesincetheautomotive exports of the plastics and rubber industry specialized certification agents DNV (Det Norske Veritas) were also monitored and tested by a so-called witness auditor in specialist knowledge and capabilities, a third-party observer. Multiple audit teams have thoroughly tested the functionality of the management system based on the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from develop- ment through to planning, sales, market observations, logistics and, of course, to the production and quality assurance along with after-sales services and docu mented the progress in the last three years since the pre- viousfullaudit.Notleastasaresultofthecertification, the personal development in accordance with the IIP (Inves- tors in People) standard, which took place last autumn, the qualification of the team throughout the process chain has been specified as a “Focus Area” and thus audited intensively. Happily, alongside a few recommen- dations, a lot of positive aspects have been highlighted in the audit report by the DNV auditors and thus the effectiveness of the management system in accordance with the various ISO standards has been successfully confirmed and verified. After years of a successfully certified and used management system, smaller deviations re- ferred to truly de- tailed issues such as the statistical formula “Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility” within the framework of the Measurement System Analysis (MSA) or the docu- mentation in the pre- dictive rather than pre- ventive maintenance as required by the ISO/TS automotive standard. A big praise goes to the entire BIW team which has demonstrably developed the company in a positive direction. In conclusion, the four DNV auditors spent three days on site at the company and found it “in excellent shape” with a management team familiar with even the small- est of process details and a team that masters, implements and documents these processes in an exemplary fashion. In addition, the auditing sector for the Medical and Pharmaceutical items by the specified ISO 13485 auditor, a newly developed BIW drainage tube was also subjected to an internal risk evaluation and the documentation was examined in view of approval as a standalone medical product. — RALF STOFFELS COMPACT When it comes to competence When it comes to competence Ralf Stoffels Dr. Markus Wiethoff DNV BUSINESS ASSURANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CERTIFICAT Certificate No.: CERT-07479-2004-AQ-HOU-IATF IATF Certificate No.: 0170870 Page 1 of 1 This is to certify that the Management System of: BIW Isolierstoffe GmbH Pregelstr. 5, 58256 Ennepetal, Germany Supporting Site Extensions: None Remote Supporting Functions: None has been found to conform to Technical Specification: ISO/TS 16949:2009 having been audited in accordance with the: Rules for the registration scheme for ISO/TS 16949:2009 – 3 rd Edition.
