153 world market leaders from South Westphalia

In time for the third day of world markets leaders on the 7th / 8th September the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Arnsberg, Hagen and Siegen publish the updated list of the world market leaders and best performances from South Westphalia ... and BIW is one of them

At the beginning of 2013 the Chambers of Industry and Commerce registered 105 companies as world market leaders, which were number 1, 2 or 3 in terms of sales in an international niche market or technology leader. Now - two and a half years later - the 4th edition is already published with 153 success stories of hidden champions from South Westphalia. They represent the strength of the industrial region: the large number of medium-sized and owner-led companies reached outstanding positions in their markets, because of flexibility, a keen understanding of cutomer needs and committed employees.

"If foreigners want to learn how German SME sector works, you should visit Wetter an der Ruhr, Lippstadt or Iserlohn" recommends the editor in chief Miriam Meckel of the WirtschaftsWoche in her welcoming remark of the 168-pages report. From her point of view "South Westphalia" could be a synonym for "productive". This is confirmed by the fact that the terms of sales and number of employees increased, comparing the 3rd and 4th edition of 2012 and 2014. The hidden champions created 5,000 new jobs.

The regional focus of the world market leaders are in Lippstadt (10 companies), Arnsberg (9), Siegen (8), Lüdenscheid (7) and Hagen (7). The largest industry among the world market leaders is the mechanical and plant engineering with 49 companies, followed by automotive (32) and building (26).
